鄒衛寧教授，男，出生于甘肅省蘭州市，現為中國海洋大學國際合作與交流處翻譯室首席翻譯，中國海洋大學外國語學院研究生導師，青島市翻譯協會特聘同聲傳譯員，并被北京外國語學院翻譯培訓中心特聘為全國外語翻譯證書（英語）口筆譯主講教師。鄒教授在蘭州大學先后獲得英語專業學士學位，新聞英語專業碩士學位，后經過多年的國外生活和教學及翻譯實踐，在同聲傳譯領域取得了令人矚目的成就，成為島城知名的同聲傳譯教師，并培養了大量的優秀口譯人員。
同聲傳譯是一門新興的語言翻譯學科，指的是由一種語言向另一種語言的同時翻譯，其間要求譯者不能改變來源語的意義及感情色彩。這門學科有著巨大的發展前景，但同時又要求學習者有著良好的語言基礎知識、出眾的反應能力及鎮定自若的臨場發揮。所以怎樣成為一名優秀的同聲傳譯人員激發起越來越多的語言愛好者的興趣，今天我們就來討論一下有關同聲傳譯的話題。
Prof. Zou Weining, Male, was born in Lanzhou, Gansu Province. At
present he is the chief interpreter of the Translation Office and
Professor of English at the Ocean University of China, as well as
simultaneous interpreter of Qingdao Translators Association. He has
been appointed as the senior instructor for the program of advanced
interpretation and translation in Beijing Foreign Studies
University’s Translation & Interpretation Training Center.
Prof. Zou graduated from Lan Zhou University with Bachelor degree of
English and Master Degree of English Journalism. Thanks to several
years of overseas life and rich experience in teaching and
translating practice, he has made great achievements in the field of
interpretation and become well known in Qingdao’s interpreting
community. As an teacher of interpretation, he has trained quite a
few interpreting professionals in the recent years.
Simultaneous Interpretation is a sunrise language translation
science, which includes simultaneous oral translating practice that
converts one language into another without changing the ideas and
emotion contained in the source language. With a bright prospect, it
also demands that learners should have solid basic knowledge, swift
reflexes and calm stage performance. Therefore, more and more
devotees of language have showed their interests in simultaneous
interpretation.

同聲傳譯對于大多數熱愛英語的人來說是既陌生神秘又具有極高挑戰性的，而該行業較高的報酬又為其增添了不少誘惑力。成為一名合格的同傳譯員不僅需要有過硬的英漢自如轉換的語言能力，而且還需要良好的心理素質，能夠快速反應，沉著應變。這些都是與長期刻苦的和科學的練習分不開的。隨著青島成為2008年奧運會的伙伴城市和其舉辦的各類國際性會議的增多，成為一名同傳譯員已經成為越來越多的人的夢想，大家也越發渴望了解這個行業，走進這個行業。
幸運的是在青島就有一位優秀的同傳譯員—中國海洋大學首席翻譯鄒衛寧教授。懷著對英語語言的熱愛，多年來，鄒教授一直不斷地在英語世界中求索。早在90年代，當大多數青島人對同聲傳譯還聞所未聞之時，鄒教授就已經開始了同傳的實踐。堪稱青島同傳第一人。如今，他已在各類國際性的政治，經濟，文化，體育，商業，科技等會議和論壇以及一些國外企業的專業推介和論壇上做過同傳，其出色的翻譯水平，認真負責的態度和臨場反應能力得到了各方的好評。他本人不但現在每天仍然堅持學習和實踐，而且在不遺余力培養青島的同傳人才方面更是走在了前面。
因此通過本次網談，相信熱愛英語的網友們一定會從鄒教授的談話中受益。
To many English language fancier, simultaneous interpreting still
remains mysterious and highly challenging. Meantime, many regard it
as an attractive profession due to the high pay. Yet to become a
qualified simultaneous interpreter requires not only proficiency in
English-Chinese and Chinese-English interpretation but also quick
response and good presence of mind which can only be achieved through
long term hard work and scientific training. Nowadays, Qingdao hosts
more international conferences than before after it was chosen to be
the partner host city for 2008 Olympic Games. The new chance
intrigues people’s aspiration to know more about and probe into this
profession since more are embracing the dream to become a
simultaneous interpreter.
We are lucky to have a mentor here to guide us--- Professor
William Zou, chief interpreter of OUC and an outstanding simultaneous
interpreter in Qingdao. For years, Professor Zou never stops his
far and wide exploring in the world of English. As early as 1990s, he
started his practice on simultaneous interpreting at a time when most
of us even never heard of it yet so it is justified to say he is the
forthgoer in this field. Up till now, Professor Zou has made his
appearance on various international conferences and forums on
politics, economy, culture, commerce, technology, sports and also on
meetings and forums of foreign enterprises as simultaneous
interpreter. His excellent interpretation , quick response on spot
and responsible manner won him fame and wide acknowledgement. Sparing
no efforts, he is also a pioneer in Qingdao in training simultaneous
interpreter apart from his own uninterrupted study and practice.
It is believed that netizens will surely benefit from Professor

On top of the conventional consecutive interpretation, S/I requires that
"One mind for three function" which means you have to listen , rephrase,
and interpret at the same time.
At least 2000 tape hours practice.

To be a qualified S/I , you need to go through a complicated series of
practice including shadowing, making summaries of both source and target languages, sight translation practice,etc.
In Qingdao, only OUC has such a program for master degree. You are welcome

Both are important. Less than 50% depends on language,20% is on your presence
of mind, 30% on technical skills.
Those skills include: quick response; large vocabulary; background information
etc.

Both certificates are equally important and they are widely accepted in China.
It is not necessary to get them before you practice S/I.
For advanced level certificate, S/I is the major part in the test.

get a certificate for S/I although you will get something more
useful than that- the skills for S/I.

As far as I know, there are only half a dozen part-time S/I . Even I myself is
a part-time S/I although I am the chief interpreter at OUC.
There are increasing number of international conferences in Qingdao which need
my service as S/I.e.g,since the beginning of this year, I have done more than
six S/I in Qingdao and one S/I even in Germany.
In my opinion, we need at least 20.

That means you will have good chance to start as a semi-professional
S/I.

But as far as I know, there are only a few dozen in China. and Shanghai and Beijing are two major cities in China. would you like to campare the S/I market in these two cities and in Qingdao? For urgent need, we sometimes ask for S/I from large cities like Beijing and Shanghai. By the year 2008, even 20 will not be enough for Qingdao.

If your "SUJI" means short-hand,we do not need short-hand for S/I . I do
know note-taking in S/I but note-taking is more important in consecutive
interpretation than in S/I.
I invent my own way of note-taking.
As for your second question, I have never said I am the "number one "in Qingdao.
I will not say that in the future. In fact, I was doing a more important job
at ACD- the Liaison Officer for the Vice Premier of a middle-east country.

The average reward for one session (the whole morning) is about RMB3000,just half the price of that in Beijing and Shanghai.However, when I do S/I for my university or for the municipal government, I charge nothing.
